You should definitely visit the Macedonian Gate, one of the most important symbols of Skopje and even all of Macedonia. Although it was built in 2012, this gate, which gives a different atmosphere to Skopje, is decorated with reliefs of important figures in the history of Macedonia. Macedonian Gate, this monument with a historical meaning with its modern construction date, is one of the points worth seeing in the center of Skopje. Reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the city, this building is a great stop to take photos and witness the history of Skopje.

STONE BRIDGE ( Macedonian: Камен Мост, Kamen Most)

The Stone Bridge, one of Skopje's oldest and most symbolic structures, rises over the Vardar River. This historical building, which connects the left side, which is the Turkish area in Skopje, and the right side, which is the new city area, is located in the heart of the city.

The Stone Bridge connects the two sides of Skopje and is considered the symbol of the city. This structure, built on the site of the old Byzantine bridge, was built in the 15th century. Its construction started in 1444 and was completed in 1546 during the reign of Mehmet the Conqueror. Therefore, the bridge is also known as "Conqueror's Bridge".

The bridge is built on 12 columns and is 214 meters long. Its construction on stone pillars made it resistant to natural disasters and wars. Also on the left side of the bridge, II. There is also a plaque commemorating the people of Skopje who lost their lives in World War II.

This bridge, considered one of the wonders of Mimar Sinan, has managed to survive until today, despite being targeted in many wars.

The bridge, which was used for transportation until 1971, is now used only by pedestrians. The Stone Bridge is considered the symbol of Skopje and connects the two banks of the Vardar River. While visiting Skopje, you will cross this bridge many times and you can take wonderful photos against the Vardar River at sunset.

Although the bridge has been damaged over the years for various reasons, it has been preserved by frequent renewal.

Skopje Art Bridge

Art Bridge, one of the important parts of the Skopje 2014 project, attracts attention with its 29 sculptures. These statues were made to honor Macedonia's well-known artists and musicians.

This bridge, which is open only to pedestrians, is the center of attention of tourists with its bronze statues. You do not need to change an extra route to visit the Art Bridge on the Vardar River. While visiting the city square, you can take a short break to see the statues of important artists who have left their mark on the history of Macedonia. This bridge is like an open-air gallery that reveals the cultural richness of the city and the importance it attaches to art.

Alexander the Great

The Statue of Alexander the Great in Skopje Square is one of the most remarkable monuments in the center of the city. This statue depicts Alexander the Great, the legendary ruler of Macedonia, as "Warrior on a Horse". Designed by Valentina Stefanovska, this bronze statue is 28 meters tall and has become the symbol of Skopje.

Statue of Alexander the Great, his father II. It is located opposite the statue of Philip. II. The statue of Philip is located in the same square, a few hundred meters away from the statue of Alexander the Great. This arrangement highlights the country's rich history and heritage by honoring two great Macedonian leaders, both father and son.

Skopje Old Bazaar

It covers a large area between the Skopje Turkish Bazaar, Mustafa Pasha Mosque and Skopje Castle. It hosts 712 shops. I recommend you to visit the streets separately, day and night, where there are plenty of souvenirs and food and beverage options. This area, where you can enjoy live music at night, is ideal for having a fun time.

The Old Bazaar, which was established with the logic of the Istanbul Grand Bazaar, is spread over a large area, and although it has undergone some changes over time, it has preserved its names such as quilters' street and earnings street. This maze-like bazaar experienced its brightest periods between the 15th century and the 19th century.

Indeed, the Stone Bridge divides the city into two culturally, and the bazaar part has a very traditional structure.

The Turkish Bazaar feels like a small Anatolian city. Stone streets, cafes smelling of hookah, and restaurants on every corner smelling like meatballs are located here. Kapan Han is also located here and is a great place especially to drink tea.

The bazaar and its surroundings, which have survived from the Ottoman period, constitute the Muslim side of the city. In the bazaar, where mostly products coming from Turkey are sold, most of the tradesmen are Muslim Albanians.

The Bazaar is one of the most loved and visited places by Turkish tourists. It is possible to find Turkish coffee and brewed tea here. It is very easy to walk around the bazaar and its surroundings, eat and communicate with people without knowing English.

This tourist place, full of shops selling local products, Turkish and Balkan restaurants, Ottoman inns, baths, caravanserais, mosques and tombs, was founded by the Turks in the 12th century and became the most important trade center of the city. You will notice that Turkish is still spoken in this region. Be sure to spare an hour or two for this bazaar, without saying that it is also available in Turkey.

Millennium Pilgrim - Sredno Vodno

The Millennium Cross is located on Mount Vodno, near Skopje, the capital of Macedonia. This cross, built in 2002, is one of the largest crosses in the world. At 66 meters high, this landmark is known to be even taller than the Statue of Liberty.

You can sit at the cafe at the top and enjoy the view. After sitting and resting for a while in the cafes at the summit, do not forget to go not to the city center, but to Macedonia Village, which is 5-10 minutes away.

The castle dates back to the 4th century BC and represents an important archaeological site that has survived to the present day under the influence of all civilizations. The castle still has 121 meters long walls, 3 towers and various archaeological ruins.

Double Hammam

It is a historical spot that has managed to survive among the works of the Ottoman period in Skopje. II. The bath, built by Davut Pasha, who served as grand vizier during the Beyazıt period, is very close to the Stone Bridge. The bridge was built between 1489 and 1497 and has undergone several restorations.

Çifte Hamam, which has an important place among the historical places of Skopje, was greatly damaged in the 1963 earthquake and many parts of the structure were destroyed.

In addition, the building, which has been made suitable for viewing again thanks to the restoration works carried out on the ruins, now serves as the National Art Gallery of Macedonia. Despite the changes made on the exterior of the old Turkish bath, Ottoman traces still remain, as there is no deterioration in the dome and ceiling motifs.

Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art

After the 1963 earthquake, which caused the destruction of most of the country, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art was established with the cooperation of artists from all over the city. This museum reflects the city's innovative and contemporary art approach by hosting works of national and international artists.

Bohemian Street

Located a 10-minute walk from Macedonia Square, Bohemian Street is like a door opening to a different world from within the city.

Bohemian Street, where you will get away from the Baroque style buildings throughout Skopje, is the most interesting point of the city with its different atmosphere. Getting a fresh breath will be good for you, and you can find the chance to spend time in the many restaurants and cafes on the street.

Skopje City Park

Skopje City Park, located within walking distance from the square, is a nature area where you can walk in the fresh air in an area decorated with trees and ponds.

If you have the opportunity to take a walk with the leaves turning orange, especially in autumn, I recommend you do not miss it. You can rent a bike or even have a picnic. If you have a child, you can let them have fun in the park.

Church of the Ascension of Christ

Don't forget to add the Church of the Ascension of Christ, the oldest Orthodox church in the city, to your list of places to visit in Skopje. When you enter the church, you will first be greeted by magnificent woodwork. By visiting this church, which is one of the important religious symbols of the city, you can gain valuable information about the religious past of Macedonia.

Sulu Khan

In Skopje, where we see many traces of the Ottoman Empire, you can also visit Sulu Han, which served as a trade center during its time. You can see the Ottoman traces closely while visiting Sulu Inn, which has been standing since 1450. Although it is still open now, it operates as an art gallery.

If you need a shopping mall in the city, you can visit large shopping centers such as CityMall and Ramstore.

Vodno Mountain Observation Hill

Vodno Mountain, one of the highest points from which you can watch Skopje, is located at an altitude of 1,066 meters above sea level. This peak is famous for its forest areas and various viewing points.

Vodno Mountain, frequently visited by tourists, is also known for hosting the Millennium Cross, as well as being a natural viewing point. However, by simply visiting the mountain, you can enjoy the view of Skopje from the viewpoints on the edges. The mountain can be reached from a certain point by cable car.

Matka Canyon

Located approximately 25 kilometers from Skopje, between the Treska and Vardar Rivers, Matka Canyon is one of the most popular tourist areas in Macedonia. This natural wonder is famous for its various underground water caves and is a perfect spot for extreme sports.

The canyon is home to magnificent underwater caves and offers many activities such as nature walks, canoe tours and more. Regardless of the weather, tourists visit this place frequently. Inside the canyon, there are cafes where you can relax and boats where you can take small tours.

Vrelo Cave, one of the deepest underground water caves in the world, is located here. Additionally, medieval churches and monasteries are also located in this region. You can rock climb in the canyon or take a boat tour.

To reach the canyon, you can take bus number 60 from the bus station in 20 minutes for 35 dinars, or approximately 50 cents. The taxi option costs 500-550 dinars, that is, around 8 Euros.

Tumba Madzhari

The Neolithic settlement, discovered by chance during highway excavations in Skopje, reveals life between 6000 and 4300 BC. The settlement found during these excavations is reconstructed and reveals the settlement pattern that changed over time.

As you explore many cities, you may have wondered how people lived in the past. The Neolithic village, which can satisfy your curiosity while visiting Skopje, is not an ordinary tourist attraction. It will be very useful to visit here and learn what the past brought and how human history evolved.

Vrelo Cave

Vrelo Cave is located on the right bank of the Treska River and is considered one of the deepest underwater caves in the world. Known as one of the 77 best natural sites worldwide, this cave is often visited during lake tours to Matka Canyon.

The cave has an extraordinary natural beauty consisting of countless stalagmites and stalactites. Concerts are occasionally held at the entrance of the cave, taking advantage of its acoustic structure. If you come across such an event during your visit, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity.
